But time for a serious question.....one that my co-workers and I hotly debate all the time (it has not come to fisticuffs yet, but there is still time)......
Overall, who is the better Leaf......Rielly or Gardiner?
We are split right down the middle on this one. I am in the Rielly camp. |

Last year, Gardiner was the better of the two.
Now Gardiner is also 3 years older and just had a career year that may or may not repeat itself.
I think if you were to ask around, every GM in the league would rather have Rielly because his upside is that much higher and Gardiner, while having improved alot last year, remains someone I'd be hesitant to put on the ice in important moment in fear of one of his classic "boneheaded plays". |

It's tough because Rielly had a down year last year and Gardiner had his best year ever. Rielly looked good again in the playoffs though so I have hope he turns it back around next year.
Overall, given his age, pedigree and potential I still go Rielly too. |

The point of these forums is to share ideas, opinions, and discuss the team.
Why are you so angry? |

I applied but didn't get the job. I was asked if I kept my eye on Gudbranson or Carolina. I said of course I did. They said sorry best of luck in my future endeavours. |

I can fully agree. It is discussions on these kinds of players that creates such a divide. I have no doubt that stats can capture things we just don't notice. But they also seem to fail to capture the things we do. I know that negatives can stick in the mind more than positives and that can twist how you view a player, but....Marincin makes some really dumb plays and I don't think the stats really capture that.
Sometimes just have to be able to look at a guy and say....he's got flaws. It's a tough line to walk. There are impacts that guys have on the ice that you don't see since you are following the puck most of the time. And I also think there are guys who get overrated by certain stats that do deserve some real criticism. |

Many people especially knowledgable Leaf fans would agree with this. It is annoying though, hearing it from a Habs fan, who comes here regularly to swipe a backhanded comment or two on a regular basis on this blog. The truth is though, that you like to dish it out, but don't take it very well. For example, if I were to say to you (and keep in mind that I detest the Sens and while I am not a Habs fan by any stretch, there is no hate) - that Kyle Turris as lousy a first line centre as he is, would be the top centre on the Habs, but would be hard pressed to be a fourth line centre on the Leafs. After the Habs trade Galchenyuk, they wil have the following steaming pile at centre this year
Shaw, Mitchell, Flynn and Plekanec ENJOY!
